  • Make your auditions and performances LOOK and FEEL truly SPONTANEOUS! Directors throw around the word "spontaneous" ALL THE TIME when talking about certain actors’ admirably fresh performances. That’s great and good but what do they mean exactly?!

  • Many well-known acting teachers such as Sanford Meisner, Viola Spolin, and Stanislavski also saw this "spontaneity" as a vital key to powerfully honest performances. After years of trying to mine it out of actors using varying techniques and tools, these teachers found that one of the most effective techniques for achieving instinctual spontaneity was in the use of improvisation.

  • Sam Quinn’s Improvisation for Scripted Material Workshop aims to do just what these masters of the craft did for their students, in fact, most of the workshop is directly influenced by the teachings of Spolin, Meisner, & Stanislavski!

  • In this 2-DAY WORKSHOP, you will learn several PRACTICAL IMPROVISATIONAL TOOLS for bringing presence, spontaneity, and play to scripted material!

WHAT WILL WE DO IN THE WORKSHOP?

  • DAY 1 - Consists of playing improvisational games & exercises aimed at getting you out of your head and into the scene. We are laying a foundation for you to be able to employ the improvisational tools you will be learning the following day. DAY 1 will help to strengthen your listening skills, hone your focus, and to learn to trust your instincts. Day 1 is SUPER FUN and FUNNY, so prepare to laugh!

  • DAY 2 - We take the foundational groundwork from Day 1 and apply it to scripted material. You will learn several practical improvisational tools, then prepare & perform a short scripted scene, implementing your new tools to make your performance more spontaneous, instinctual, and specific.
